5 tips to survive the silly season spending.

Finance & Money October 09, 2023 By Budget Insurance

With only two pay checks, we need to start planning NOW for that year end spend. (if you haven’t started earlier)

Create a Budget: Set a realistic budget for your holiday spending. Consider all expenses, including gifts, decorations, food, and travel. Stick to your budget to avoid overspending. Ask if anyone is contributing to the big day lunch/dinner, if not in cash, maybe ingredients?

Make a Gift List: Make a list of people you need to buy gifts for and brainstorm thoughtful, budget-friendly gift ideas. Consider homemade gifts or if you have some extra pennies, check your black Friday specials look for sales and discounts.

DIY Decorations and Wrapping: Get creative with your holiday decorations and wrapping. Make your own centrepieces using inexpensive materials. Use plain brown paper and twine for gift wrapping or repurpose old newspapers or magazines for a unique and eco-friendly touch.

Plan Potluck Dinners: If you're hosting holiday functions, consider having a potluck-style meal where guests bring dishes to share. This can significantly reduce your food expenses, and it allows everyone to contribute to the feast.

Start Saving Early: To avoid financial stress during the holiday season, start saving money throughout the year. Consider opening a dedicated savings account specifically for holiday expenses. By setting aside a small amount each month, you'll have a more substantial budget when Christmas comes around and breathe a sigh of relief in January.

Remember that the holiday season is about spending time with loved ones and creating meaningful memories, not just about extravagant gifts and decorations.
