Paint them a bigger picture – Remind your employees why they’re part of the team, why they do what they do, and why their work matters. Keep them up to date with all the latest news in the business, how things are going, and what the future holds.
Pay attention – Get to know your employees. Wish them happy birthday, ask about their families, and remember little details about their lives outside of work. These small gestures can make the world of difference to morale.
Reward excellence – If an employee does an exceptional job, tell them. Even better, tell everyone. Starting an “employee of the month” award will add a bit of healthy competition to the workplace.
Little treats will keep people smiling – when your staff has to sit through a long lunchtime meeting, provide snacks. If you’ve all been working on a tough project and have had to work a lot of extra hours, let them go an hour early on a Friday. This can help motivate them to go the extra mile next time round.
